It is also known as Lygariotissa and stands on the foundations of the old monastery of Panagia Deligara, which was built during the Venetian domination in Crete.<\/p>\n<p>During the first years of the Venetian domination, a feudal lord named Ligaras was the ruler of the area, and the old monastery took its name from the local lord of that time.
