Panagia Deligara is a small renovated church located about 3.5 kilometers from our hotel, in the area of Lygaria. It is also known as Lygariotissa and stands on the foundations of the old monastery of Panagia Deligara, which was built during the Venetian domination in Crete.

During the first years of the Venetian domination, a feudal lord named Ligaras was the ruler of the area, and the old monastery took its name from the local lord of that time. However, as far as its present name is concerned, the church owes its name to the famous Chaste tree that is thriving in the area.

The church is about 800 meters from the beach of Ligaria, and you can make a visit after your summer swim!
